Salaam Abdullah Muhammad Sr., 57, is being held on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, felonious assault, malicious use of a telephone, possession of marijuana and maintaining a drug house, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office last Wednesday received a complaint of an alleged rape and assault and contacted the St. Joseph County Area Narcotics Team after a deputy received information the suspect might be involved in drug trafficking, a news release said. The release said the drug unit and Michigan State Police searched Muhammad's house in Fawn River Township, where they found marijuana, packaging material and drug paraphernalia. Muhammad, who police said is on parole for a prior drug conviction, was arrested in Three Rivers.
