Lucayan Harbour multimillion-dollar drug bust

Law enforcement officials made a multimillion-dollar drug bust Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the launch of an international investigation, according to Chief Superintendent of Police Basil Rahming.
Superintendent Rahming said the incident occurred around 3:30pm when a joint drug interdiction team proceeded to Freeport Container Port at the Lucayan Harbour.
"Upon arrival at that transshipment facility, the officers commenced a search of a 20-foot metal container that was positioned on the storage bay," Mr. Rahming said in a press release.
"During this search, seven large, black duffle bags, which were found to contain suspected cocaine, were discovered and retrieved from among a shipment of dried coffee beans."
According to Mr. Rahming, the cargo arrived on Grand Bahama aboard the MSC SUKAINA, from Medellin, Colombia, around 11am Tuesday and was in transit to Montreal, Canada.
"The illegal narcotics, which weighed in at 216 kilos and have an estimated street value of $6.5 million, were flown to New Providence on Tuesday evening aboard an OPBAT helicopter," he said.
No arrests had been made as yet, Mr. Rahming said.
This is the second major drug bust for the year.
Last month, a daring chase on the high seas ended with two men being arrested and DEU officers seizing $1.2 million worth of marijuana and hashish, according to police.

Last year, police on Grand Bahama seized $7 million in cash; 230 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2 million; 73 pounds of marijuana, and a large weapons cache.
