Matthew James Johnston and Cody Rae Haevischer, both 24, were charged with six counts of first-degree murder.Jamie Kyle Bacon, 23, was also charged

Police yesterday laid more charges in the 2007 gangland execution of six men, one of the most shocking crimes in the Vancouver area's ongoing gang war.
Three men were charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of the so-called Surrey Six. Two of the dead had been innocent bystanders.Matthew James Johnston and Cody Rae Haevischer, both 24, were charged with six counts of first-degree murder. A third man, Jamie Kyle Bacon, 23, was charged with one count. All three are alleged members of the Red Scorpion gang.

They had been charged on Friday with conspiracy to commit murder.
Yesterday's charges follow the surprise guilty plea on Friday of another alleged Red Scorpion member, Dennis Karbovanec, 27. He pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in the slayings and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. The six bodies were found in a Surrey condominium on Oct. 19, 2007. Four – Corey Lal, Michael Lal, Edward Narong and Ryan Bartolomeo – had links to gang activities. The other two – Christopher Mohan, 22, who lived across the hall from the condo where police say there was drug activity, and Ed Schellenberg, 55, a gas fireplace technician – were in the wrong place at the wrong time."The arrests made are significant in terms of their impact to public safety," RCMP deputy commissioner Gary Bass said yesterday. "I can assure you that we, too, are breathing a little easier knowing we have these individuals in custody."Eileen Mohan, mother of Christopher Mohan, said yesterday that she had been tempted to get a gun and go after the men whom she considered responsible for her son's death. "Being snatched right from the doorstep of our home in the mid-afternoon going to do what he loved – to play basketball – was not acceptable to me," she said. "This is a positive outcome and there will be many more positive outcomes to come."
